Product description

Celeriac 'Monarch' is a traditional, high-quality, seedfast variety that has proven itself over numerous years with both hobby and organic growers. Monarch develops long, dark green foliage. The large and heavy creamy white tubers clean up well and have a nice white and fibrous interior. The mild-aromatic tasting tubers lend themselves perfectly to the fresh market, but the good shelf life also makes it an ideal storage variety.  

Celeriac can be grown on almost all soils, but good moisture and drainage are important. Constantly sufficient moisture is important for regular growth. Irregular growth with growth explosions can cause rot. Tubers from sandy and clay soils store best. Tubers from sandy and peaty soils do not keep as well.

If the tubers are stored for a few days just above freezing after harvest, this makes them taste even milder. Note: not only the tubers but also the stems are very tasty, e.g. for soup, pasta sauce or stew.

For early outdoor cultivation, sowing can be done from mid-February. However, then sowing should be done at high temperatures, 15 degrees or more, otherwise the plants will shoot (form flower stalks). In a cold greenhouse or tunnel, sowing can be done from the second week of March.
