Skimmia japonica "Rubella" is a charming, small- to medium-sized shrub that keeps its green leaves all year round. With its compact and bulbous growth pattern, this male skimmia adds a touch of elegance to any garden. The leaves are glossy and leathery, and have a grey-green colour and an oblong shape.

This skimmia begins to surprise as early as October with closed flower buds, which eventually open in April and May to reveal delightfully fragrant creamy white flowers. Skimmia japonica "Rubella" thrives best in semi-shade to shady locations and is not very fussy when it comes to soil type, as long as the soil is well-drained and rich in humus.

Another bonus of this plant is that it is quite hardy, resistant to sea breezes and air pollution, and rarely suffers from diseases or pests. Moreover, Skimmia japonica "Rubella" requires little pruning, making it a relatively low-maintenance addition to your garden.
