Scabiosa columbaria - Organic perennial

Scabiosa columbaria, also known as dovecote, is a deciduous perennial with a bushy, clump forming habit. The leaves are greyish green to medium green and lobed at the base, the upper leaves are pinnate. This pigeonweed blooms from May to September with soft pink solitary flowers with a light centre. During flowering, spent flowers should be removed to encourage extended flowering. Scabiosa columbaria likes a sunny spot and only thrives in neutral, very permeable soil. The plant hates wet feet. Scabiosa columbaria is hardy, drought-tolerant, tolerant of sea breezes and air pollution and virtually pest and disease-free. It is an ideal plant for the border in informal gardens and can also be used as cut flower.
