Originally from Australia, this fern thrives best in a sheltered position in semi-shade or shade. It thrives best in well-drained, humus-rich, nutrient-rich and slightly moist soil. Polystichum setiferum "Proliferum" is very hardy and tolerates air pollution and sea breezes well. Once well established, it is also reasonably drought-resistant.
