This Swiss chard variety is extremely early with deeply crinkled, pale green leaves and large white stems. Known for its excellent eating quality, it can be sown in September, protected from frost, for harvest from November to spring.

• Culinary uses: leaves as spinach, stems blanched with white sauce

Sowing

• In pots or peat plugs: March – July

• Direct sowing outdoors: March – July

• Row spacing: 30 cm

• Thin plants: to 30 cm apart

• Soil: rich, well-drained soil

Growth and Maintenance

• Tolerates cool temperatures well

• Harvest carefully, leave the crown intact so new leaves continue to grow and extend the harvest into autumn

Harvest and Use

• Leaves: fresh or cooked like spinach

• Stems: blanch and serve with white sauce or in stews
