"Echinops ritro, commonly known as bullet thistle, is a medium-sized perennial with upright, columnar growth and a tussock-like habit. The leaves have a thistle-like appearance, with grey-green topsides and silvery-white undersides. These leaves are spiny and deeply incised. From July to late September, Echinops ritro blooms with globular flower heads of an intense blue hue, composed of numerous small, star-shaped blue flowers. This ball thistle thrives in full sun or semi-shade and performs well in a variety of well-drained soil types, even in less fertile soils. The plant is excellent hardy, shows reasonable drought resistance and is resistant to sea breezes and air pollution. Moreover, it remains disease-free and acts as a valuable nectar source for bees and butterflies."
