Cerastium tomentosum, also known as the 'felted hornflower', is a deciduous ground cover perennial with beautiful woolly, silver-grey, oblong leaves. This hornflower blooms profusely from May to June with graceful star-shaped white flowers. Cerastium tomentosum prefers a position in full sun and requires well-drained soil that is not too damp. This plant is very hardy, very drought resistant, tolerant to sea wind and air pollution. Hornflower attracts insects, bees and butterflies. The plant is often used in rock gardens, alpine gardens, between joints of tiles or stones or as a ground cover.
