Celeriac 'Balena F1' has the reputation of being one of the best celeriac varieties on the market. The variety is very suitable for cultivation under Dutch conditions. This celeriac has nice firm white flesh and a skin with few brown spots. The variety does not bloom at all quickly and is very resistant to cold.

Celeriac performs best under cold, wet conditions. Therefore, this vegetable is an excellent alternative for less well drained soils, especially since celeriac requires a lot of water during cultivation. After harvesting, celeriac can taste a little bitter. Storing the corms for a few days just above freezing makes them a little sweeter. Store in a cool and damp place for up to two weeks. Note: not only the tubers but also the stems are tasty, for example in soup, pasta sauce or soup. However, the leaves can cause skin irritations, just like parsnips. In case of sensitivity, wear gloves and long sleeves.

Outdoor
Pre-sowing: 10-12 weeks before transplanting. Attention: Celeriac germinates very slowly. Do not scatter, keep the soil moist.
Plant out: end of April - mid June
Harvest: August-November, approx. 150 days after transplanting (optimal for keeping quality)
