Product description

Protect your plants against thrips with our innovative grow bags | Cucu-care

Do you regularly suffer from thrips on your plants? Whether they are houseplants, vegetable plants or grapes, thrips can be a real pest. If you're tired of being constantly behind the times, it's time to take preventive measures with our thrips grow bags.

What's in our grow bags? Our breeding sachets contain a mix of Neoseiulus cucumeris predatory mites in different stages of development, along with flour mites and a carrier of bran. The flour mites feed on the bran and in turn provide food for the predatory mites.

Neoseiulus (formerly Amblyseius) cucumeris is a beige predatory mite about 0.5 - 1 mm in size at adult stage. These predatory mites spread quickly over the plants, sting their prey and suck it dry. An adult Neoseiulus cucumeris has a lifespan of about 3 weeks.

These predatory mites feed on eggs and young larvae of thrips, but not on adult thrips. By using our breeding sachets, predatory mites will hatch for 4 weeks, addressing the first signs of thrips immediately.

When should you use our thrips breeding sachets? Our grow bags are ideal for houseplants to prevent leaf damage. Thrips-prone houseplants include Monstera species, Tradescantia species, Calatheas, Anthuriums, Ficus, roses and gerberas. When buying new houseplants, it is advisable to isolate them and treat them with our grow bags against thrips, as houseplants are often infected with thrips from the nursery. They can also be used preventively on vegetables such as cucumber, sweet pepper, melon or aubergine. In addition, they are effective on grapes and strawberries, especially if you suffer from thrips every year. Our grow bags work best at temperatures above 20°C (at least for a few hours) during the day and at least 6°C at night. They are also ideal to hang up after a thrips infestation, giving you another 4 weeks of protection to clean up the hatching eggs.

What are the advantages of our grow bags? Easy and quick to hang, with a handy hook to attach to the plants. Can be used indoors or in the greenhouse. Provides 4 weeks of protection, with new predatory mites continuously spreading into the plants. Affordable to buy.

How to use our grow bags against thrips? Choose from sets of 5, 25, 50, 100 or 250 thrips breeding bags.

Hang at least 1 sachet on each plant, as long as the plants do not touch each other. For large houseplants, it is recommended to hang 2-3 grow bags per plant. If the plants grow into each other and form a whole, count 1 breeding bag per square metre. Note: The predatory mites leave the breeding bags through the pre-punched opening. Do not enlarge this opening, otherwise the culture will dry out. Do not moisten the breeding bags unnecessarily.

After 4 weeks the breeding bags have to be replaced if you want to keep the protection against thrips. By systematically hanging thrips breeding bags in your (indoor) plants, the thrips will not get a chance to develop.

Can you store our thrips breeding bags? No, this is not possible. The breeding bags have a pre-pierced hole through which the predatory mites can sprout when they are ready. If you don't hang them in the plants in time, the predatory mites will sprout in the box. So only order the quantity you can use right away.

What if you already have thrips? Our grow bags are meant for prevention. If you already have problems with thrips, we advise you to use our thrips control kit.

Spraying in combination with predatory mites We strongly advise against using chemicals or other products prior to or in combination with our beneficial insects. There is a risk of harmful residues remaining, which can be lethal to the predatory mites. If you did spray, contact us so we can check if there is a waiting period to be observed before using the predatory mites.
