Product description

Alnus glutinosa, also known as Black Alder, is a fairly large deciduous tree with an elongated, oval crown and shiny heart-shaped, medium green leaves. This Black Alder blooms in March and April with reddish catkins. Alnus glutinosa prefers a sunny position in moist but airy, permeable soil. This tree is very hardy, resistant to wind and sea wind, tolerant to hardening and air pollution and can also be used for coppicing.

The Black Alder or native Alder can be used in a wide landscape hedge or a hedge edge/wood bank. This Alder is entirely native to central/western Europe and can also grow in drier soils. You can keep it at the desired height when pruning. The black or native Elder grows to a maximum of 20 metres high.

Since this common alder tree tolerates sea wind well, it can also be planted by the sea. From September, this alder tree shows its fruits (also called alder cones) and yellow/orange 'catkins' between the leaves.
