Acer pensylvanicum has an open growth habit and forms a large shrub, which later becomes a multi-stemmed tree. Eventually it is a slender tree with an open crown. The vertical white stripes on the green trunk are striking. Especially in the winter period, they show their high ornamental value. After some time, the bark turns rather red-brown. The leaf is relatively large and bright green, it is three-lobed. The middle lobe is the longest. The yellow-green flower owls appear just after the leaves have developed. They are followed by winged samaras. Requires a moist soil in a shady location.
