Product description

Summer vetch is an annual, fast-growing green manure crop that creates a lot of plant mass. Wikke is a legume. These richly flowering plants are very important for bees and other pollinating insects. These plants can also absorb nitrogen from the air and they loosen the soil well because of their strong rooting. The crop dies in the winter.

Summer vetch does not cover the soil completely, so that sowing this green manure crop does not sufficiently suppress the development of weeds. However, this can be solved by mixing in other seeds, such as sunflower or winter rye.

Summer vetch also feels at home in mixtures. A good example is vetch with Japanese oats. These two species complement each other in their use of nitrogen. Together they ensure that extra nitrogen is available for the following crop.
