Turnip – Boule d'or

This early turnip variety produces round, medium-sized roots with smooth skin and firm, sweet, and aromatic orange flesh. Turnips can be eaten raw and are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals.

Sowing Turnips

• Direct sow in open ground from March to August

• Row spacing: 20–25 cm

• Thin seedlings when 5 cm tall with 2–3 leaves to 10 cm apart

Care and Diseases

• Prefer light, fertile soil

• Keep soil moist, especially in warm weather

• Prevent powdery mildew with plant extracts

• Avoid overly wet soil to prevent root rot

• Companion planting with fennel can deter cabbage fly

Harvest

• Summer sowings: about 2 months after sowing

• Autumn sowings: about 3 months after sowing
