Product description

Tomato St. Jean d'Angely

The Saint Jean d’Angely is an old French tomato variety from Charente Maritime, highly productive and similar to the Cornue des Andes. This mid-season tomato produces elongated, meaty fruits with few seeds, growing in clusters of 2–5. The flesh is firm, not very juicy, and the flavor is delicious. This indeterminate tomato variety is perfect for gardeners valuing quality over quantity.

Organic Tomato Cultivation – Tips for Saint Jean d’Angely

Sowing: Sow seeds at a constant temperature of at least 20°C, ideally 24°C, from mid-February to late March (6–8 weeks before transplanting). Maintain a warm, bright, and humid environment, mist lightly.

Transplanting: After germination, transplant seedlings with 2–4 leaves into pots at 15–20°C. Later plant outdoors at 50 x 80 cm spacing, after April 15 under glass or after the last frost. Northern regions are recommended to grow under glass, but sunny, well-ventilated outdoor locations also work.

Pruning: For indeterminate varieties, prune shoots in the leaf axils to encourage high-quality fruit. Determinate varieties do not require pruning; use mulch and staking instead.

Care and Disease Prevention

  • Tomatoes need warmth and organic nutrients, especially potassium (K).

  • Bury part of the stem during planting to promote root growth.

  • In northern areas, lightly prune to prevent leaves from touching the soil.

  • Water regularly without wetting foliage to avoid powdery mildew.

  • Preventively use nettle extract, horsetail decoction, or seaweed powder (lithothamne).

  • Pur’Mel 3 fertilizer is highly effective: dilute 10% in water for prevention; for mildew 30% twice per week.

Harvest

This mid-season tomato is ready to harvest about 2.5 months after planting. Ripe tomatoes fall easily from the plant. Perfect for fresh salads, canning, and nutrient-rich meals.
