Mustard – red Chinese Red Giant

This red mustard variety produces large, intensely fiery red leaves forming beautiful decorative rosettes in the vegetable or ornamental garden. Beyond its striking appearance, it is valued for its sharp, peppery flavor reminiscent of mustard and arugula.

Young leaves are delicious fresh in salads but can also be sautéed or cooked like spinach. Cooking softens the flavor, making it milder and more delicate.

Growing Advice for Red Mustard Greens

This variety prefers cool conditions and short days, making it ideal for spring and autumn cultivation.

Sowing

• Direct sow in rows spaced 30 cm apart

• Sowing periods: March–April and mid-July to late September

• Thin seedlings to 5 cm apart

Harvest

• Harvest when leaves reach 10–20 cm in height

• Keep the plant heart intact to encourage regrowth

• Allows multiple harvests

Keep the soil consistently moist. For best quality, harvest at the young stage, about 6–8 weeks after sowing.

Can also be sown under glass after winter.

Suitable for container growing, window boxes and small gardens.
