Product description

Pink Jumbo Banana Pumpkin

The Pink Jumbo Banana is an heirloom variety of pumpkin known for its large, cylindrical fruits, which can weigh up to 30 kg and resemble bananas. The ripe fruits have a salmon-colored skin and bright orange flesh. The flavor is excellent, though not particularly sweet. It's recommended to consume them before they reach a length of 90 cm.

Growing Tips for Pink Jumbo Banana Pumpkin:

Sowing:
Sow the pumpkins indoors from March to April (at 20°C) to speed up fruiting and reduce damage from pests. Transplant the seedlings after the last frost, around May 15, into the garden at a distance of 1 meter apart (2 meters for creeping varieties). Plant them in small holes filled with compost.

You can also sow directly in the ground in May, but the harvest will be later and less abundant.

Care:
Pumpkins require plenty of sunlight and thrive in soil rich in organic matter. Ensure regular and abundant watering during dry spells. Pruning is optional but may help with plant health.

Harvesting:
Harvest pumpkins at the end of the season when the leaves wilt and the stem dries out. For better storage, harvest as late as possible, but before the first frost. Let the pumpkins sit outside for a day (protected from rain and frost) to allow the skin to dry. Store them in a dry, well-ventilated indoor space.

Tips and Tricks for Growing Pumpkins:
Pumpkin seeds need warmth (20-22°C) to germinate well. They do not like excess moisture, as this can cause the seedling to rot.

It is possible for a healthy, flowering plant not to produce fruit. This can be due to a lack of pollination (due to a lack of pollinating insects, which you can remedy by planting insect-friendly flowers). Another reason could be a shortage of female flowers, often caused by extreme heat that affects both female flower production and the quality of male flower pollen. Protect your plants from excessive heat by mulching or providing shade during hot weather.
