White Star from Antwerp Tomato

White Star from Antwerp is an old, traditional white tomato variety from Belgium. This unique variety produces slightly flattened, ribbed, creamy-colored fruits of medium size (100–200 g) with sweet, flavorful flesh.

Although the plant is moderately vigorous, it can sometimes produce heavy clusters of fruit. It is a mid-season, indeterminate variety, suitable for outdoor cultivation or greenhouse growing.

Sowing and Transplanting

• Sow seeds at 20–24°C from mid-February to late March/early April

• Transplant 6–8 weeks later

• Pot seedlings with 2–4 leaves in a warm place (15–20°C)

• Plant at 50 x 80 cm spacing

• After April 15, grow under glass or outdoors after the last frost

Cultivation and Maintenance

• Bury most of the stem at planting to encourage strong root development

• Requires warmth and organic fertilization, especially potassium (K)

• In northern regions, lightly prune to prevent leaves from touching the ground

• Water regularly without wetting the foliage

• Preventive spraying with nettle liquid, horsetail decoction, or powdered seaweed (lithothamne)

• Indeterminate varieties: remove suckers (shoots in leaf axils)

• Determinate/bushy varieties: do not prune, mulch and support instead

• Pur’Mel 3 fertilizer: dilute 10% for prevention, 30% in case of powdery mildew (spray twice weekly until resolved)

Harvest

The White Star from Antwerp is a mid-season variety, ready approximately 2.5 months after planting. Ripe tomatoes detach easily and maintain high quality.
