Product description

Tomato Gloire de Versailles

The Gloire de Versailles tomato is a heritage French tomato variety with indeterminate growth that is known for being early and highly productive. Its smooth, medium‑sized red fruits are slightly flattened, with firm flesh and good flavor, perfect for salads and fresh eating.

Growing tips for organic and reproducible Gloire de Versailles tomatoes

  • Sowing: Sow indoors from mid‑February to late March/early April at a constant temperature of at least 20 °C (ideally 24 °C). Maintain a warm, humid and light environment, lightly misting regularly.

  • Transplanting: Once seedlings have 2–4 leaves, transplant to pots at 15–20 °C. Then plant at 50 x 80 cm spacing outdoors after April 15 under glass or after the last frost.

  • Pruning: For indeterminate tomatoes, remove suckers from leaf axils to encourage quality fruit formation. For determinate types, use mulch and support instead.

Care and disease prevention

  • These tomatoes need warmth and organic nutrients, especially potassium (K). Burying part of the stem at planting improves root development.

  • Light pruning in northern regions helps prevent leaves from touching the ground.

  • Watering: Water regularly without wetting foliage, as tomatoes are vulnerable to powdery mildew.

  • Consider preventive sprays like nettle tea, horsetail decoction, or seaweed powder (lithothamne) to strengthen plants.

  • Pur’Mel 3 fertilizer works well: dilute 10% for prevention or 30% for mildew control.

Harvest

  • Early variety: harvestable about 1.5–2 months after planting.

  • Ripe tomatoes easily detach from the plant.
