The Christmas tomato Red Pear is an old French tomato variety that is highly productive. These small, pear-shaped tomatoes have firm, sweet flesh and are perfect as an appetizer or snack. It is an early, indeterminate variety, ideal for gardens or greenhouses.

Christmas tomatoes ripen earlier, are more productive, and less prone to disease than larger varieties. They are suitable for container growing, bush varieties often need no support, and their sweetness makes them a favorite with children.

Growing Tips for Christmas Tomato Red Pear

• Sowing: Sow indoors at 20–24°C from mid-February to late March/early April (6–8 weeks before transplanting). Keep a warm, moist, and bright environment and mist lightly.

• Transplanting: After germination (2–4 leaves), transplant seedlings into pots at 15–20°C. Plant at 50 x 80 cm spacing outdoors after April 15 under glass or after the last frost. In northern regions, growing under glass is recommended.

• Care and disease prevention: Tomatoes need warmth and potassium-rich organic nutrition. Bury part of the stem at planting to promote root development. Light pruning in northern regions prevents leaves from touching the ground.

• Watering and disease prevention: Water regularly without wetting foliage; tomatoes are sensitive to powdery mildew. Preventively spray with nettle tea, horsetail decoction, or seaweed powder (lithothamnium).

• Pur’Mel 3 fertilizer is very effective; dilute 10% for prevention or 30% in case of mildew and spray twice a week until the disease disappears.
