Parrotia persica ‘Bella’ is an elegant selection of the Persian ironwood tree, valued for its compact habit, spectacular autumn colour and ornamental bark. In its multi-stemmed form, this cultivar truly excels, offering a refined, architectural presence throughout the year.

Flowering

In late winter to early spring (February–March), small reddish flowers appear without petals. Though subtle, they are botanically interesting and provide an early food source for insects.

Growth and habit

As a multi-stemmed tree, Parrotia persica ‘Bella’ develops a compact, broadly spreading crown supported by several strong trunks. Growth is slow to moderate, making it suitable even for smaller gardens. Mature height is usually 6 to 8 metres.

Foliage and autumn colour

The leaves are glossy green and oval. In autumn, they turn brilliant shades of yellow, orange, red and purple, often all at once, creating an exceptional autumn display.

Bark and winter interest
