Isotoma fluviatilis – Blue Star Creeper

Isotoma fluviatilis, commonly known as blue star creeper, is a low-growing, creeping perennial that produces a wealth of star-shaped pale blue flowers from spring to late summer. It quickly forms a dense green mat, making it ideal for filling gaps between paving stones, lining pathways, or softening naturalistic borders.

Compact, floriferous, and versatile

Growing to just 2–5 cm in height, this plant spreads rapidly and flowers profusely from May to August. Even outside its blooming period, the delicate green foliage remains attractive. Thanks to its low maintenance and soft texture, it’s also perfect for containers, rock gardens, and vertical planting.

Soft underfoot and lightly walkable

Blue star creeper tolerates light foot traffic, making it ideal for stepping stone joints or spots where occasional walking occurs. It performs best in sun or part shade and in well-drained soils.

Growing tips

Isotoma fluviatilis prefers a light, humus-rich soil that stays slightly moist but not soggy. In mild winters, it stays evergreen, adding year-round interest to the garden.
