Growing Tips

Sowing

• Indoors in pots at 20°C, March – April (promotes fruit set and reduces pest damage)

• Transplant outdoors after the last frost (around May 15)

• Plant spacing: 1 m; up to 2 m for sprawling varieties

• Planting holes: small pits filled with compost

• Direct sowing outdoors: possible in May, but harvest will be later and smaller

Care

• Location: sunny

• Soil: rich in organic matter

• Watering: regular and abundant at the roots during dry periods

Harvest

• Harvest at the end of the season when leaves wither and stems dry

• For long-term storage: harvest as late as possible but before the first frost

• After harvest, let pumpkins dry in the sun for one day (protected from rain and frost), then store in a dry, well-ventilated place
