Gladiolus ‘Essential’ – sustainably grown gladiolus

Gladiolus ‘Essential’ is an elegant, large-flowered gladiolus and a true summer highlight. This richly flowering variety blooms from summer well into autumn and reaches a height of around 130 cm. Its refined flower colour and stately flower spikes make it a valuable addition to borders as well as floral arrangements.

This gladiolus is also an excellent cut flower, with strong stems and long-lasting blooms. It is therefore highly recommended to plant a row of Gladiolus ‘Essential’ in the cutting garden. Thanks to its abundant flowering, this sustainably grown gladiolus is indispensable in the summer flower garden.

Planting:
Plant the corms in spring, about 7–10 cm deep. Loosen the soil well beforehand and add a layer of sharp sand at the bottom of the planting hole to ensure good drainage. Space the corms 10–12 cm apart. Improve heavy clay soils by mixing in sharp sand.

Position & combinations:
Prefers a warm, sunny location and well-drained, fertile soil. Combines beautifully with tall perennials, ornamental grasses and dahlias. Rotate planting locations annually to prevent soil fatigue.

As a cut flower:
Harvest when the lowest flower begins to open, preferably early in the morning. Place stems immediately in a vase with lukewarm water and add flower food.
