Product description

BIO Fritillaria meleagris – Snake's Head Fritillary

BIO Fritillaria meleagris, commonly known as Snake's Head Fritillary, is a beautiful organic flowering bulb with elegant, nodding bell-shaped flowers. The flowers appear in beautiful purple, creamy white and mixed shades, often featuring the characteristic chequered pattern that makes this plant so distinctive.

Growing to approximately 20 cm tall, the Snake's Head Fritillary remains compact. It looks beautiful in natural borders, among perennials, in a moist wildflower meadow or even in pots on a terrace or balcony.

🌷 A natural spring-flowering bulb

Fritillaria meleagris flowers in April and May, bringing a refined and natural touch to the garden. Its gracefully hanging flowers are particularly well suited to natural planting schemes and combine beautifully with other spring-flowering plants.

This Snake's Head Fritillary is perennial and excellent for naturalising. In suitable conditions, it can establish itself and return with flowers every spring. It is also considered butterfly-friendly.

🌱 Ideal for moist soil

An important characteristic of Fritillaria meleagris is its preference for moist, humus-rich and well-drained soil. This makes it particularly suitable for locations where the soil remains sufficiently moist during spring.

The bulbs are sensitive to drying out. It is therefore best to plant them as soon as possible after receiving them. Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, in a suitable moist location.

For a natural effect, plant the bulbs loosely in groups. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering so that the bulb can store enough energy for the following year.
