Product description

Clematis 'Miss Bateman' – White Clematis

Clematis 'Miss Bateman' is an elegant, floriferous white-flowering clematis with large, striking flowers. The blooms are bright white to creamy white and feature a beautiful contrast with their dark red to brownish stamens.

This classic climbing plant is ideal for covering fences, pergolas, trellises, walls and garden structures. Thanks to its relatively moderate growth, it is also an excellent choice for smaller gardens.

Large white flowers

The flowers of Clematis 'Miss Bateman' can reach approximately 10–15 cm across. The broad petals give the flowers a graceful and elegant appearance.

The dark reddish-brown stamens create a striking centre and add depth to the otherwise pure white flowers. After flowering, the attractive seed heads can remain decorative for some time.

Spring and summer flowering

'Miss Bateman' is an early-flowering clematis. Its main flowering period is generally May to June, after which the plant may produce a lighter second flush later in summer.

This makes it an excellent climber to combine with other plants that provide colour later in the season.

Planting Clematis 'Miss Bateman'

Clematis 'Miss Bateman' prefers a sunny to partially shaded position. The shoots flower best when they receive plenty of sunlight.

The roots, however, prefer cool and shaded soil. Planting a low perennial at the base of the clematis or covering the soil with organic mulch helps protect the roots from drying out and temperature fluctuations.

A fertile, humus-rich and well-drained soil is ideal.

Pruning group 2

Clematis 'Miss Bateman' belongs to pruning group 2.

It flowers on old wood as well as new growth, so it should not be pruned too hard.

After the first flowering period, usually in late spring, remove faded flowers and lightly shorten excessively long or weak shoots if necessary. In spring, remove dead or damaged stems.

Light pruning helps maintain a compact and healthy plant while preserving its early flowering.

Climbing support

Clematis climbs by using its leaf stalks to wrap around supports. Provide a suitable trellis, mesh, pergola or other relatively fine climbing structure.

The plant can reach approximately 2–3 metres, making it an excellent way to add vertical structure to the garden.
