Product description

Brunnera macrophylla – Siberian Bugloss

Brunnera macrophylla, commonly known as Siberian Bugloss, is a beautiful hardy perennial that thrives particularly well in partial shade and shade. In spring, the plant produces numerous small, bright blue flowers that resemble forget-me-nots. Its decorative foliage ensures that Brunnera macrophylla remains attractive long after flowering.

The large, heart-shaped leaves form a fresh green ground cover and give the garden a natural appearance. It is an excellent choice for borders, woodland gardens and planting beneath trees and shrubs.

🌸 Early spring flowering

Brunnera macrophylla usually flowers from April to May, producing small blue flowers above the foliage. The flowers are attractive to bees and other early pollinators, making this perennial a valuable addition to a wildlife-friendly garden.

After flowering, the large, heart-shaped leaves remain decorative. In autumn, the above-ground growth dies back and the plant emerges again in spring.

🌿 Position and soil

Siberian Bugloss prefers a partially shaded to shady position. A location with some morning or evening sun is ideal, while hot and dry conditions in full afternoon sun should be avoided.

The plant grows best in a humus-rich, fertile and consistently moist soil. The soil should not be allowed to dry out completely, particularly during warm summer periods.

🌱 Planting and care

Plant Brunnera macrophylla preferably in spring or autumn. Water well after planting to help the plant establish. Adding compost or an organic soil improver will help retain moisture and provide nutrients.

This is a low-maintenance perennial. Remove damaged or unattractive leaves when necessary. After winter, the plant produces fresh growth from its rhizomes.
