Allium cowanii - organic flower bulb

Allium cowanii – Organic flower bulb

Allium cowanii, also known as white flowering onion, is an elegant spring-flowering bulb with beautiful white flowers. The flower heads consist of numerous small, star-shaped flowers carried on sturdy, upright stems. Reaching a height of around 40 cm, this organic ornamental onion is a beautiful addition to both naturalistic borders and more formal planting schemes.

The fresh white flowers create a light and airy appearance and combine beautifully with perennials, ornamental grasses and other spring-flowering plants. Plant Allium cowanii in groups for a natural effect.

Organic flower bulb for a biodiverse garden

Allium cowanii is not only attractive but also valuable for biodiversity. The flowers provide a food source for bees, bumblebees, butterflies and other pollinating insects. This makes this organic flower bulb an excellent choice for an ecological and wildlife-friendly garden.

Planting and care

Plant Allium cowanii in autumn, preferably between September and December, as long as the soil is not frozen. Choose a sunny to lightly shaded position with well-drained soil. Avoid excessively wet conditions, as the bulbs may rot.

Plant the bulbs approximately 5–8 cm deep, with a spacing of around 5–10 cm. After flowering, allow the foliage to die back naturally so that the bulb can store nutrients for the following growing season.

Allium cowanii is a perennial flower bulb that can return year after year under suitable conditions.
